The Top Real Estate Franchises of 2025

1. Century 21 Real Estate

Century 21 Real Estate is a legacy real estate franchise that continues to do quite well for itself. The company’s brand mission for franchisees is “…to help entrepreneurs like you prosper and defy the mediocrity that’s incredibly common in real estate today.” The value proposition for franchisees to affiliate with this brand is gaining access to a wealth of resources, tools, and technology that help elevate their business’s potential, including industry-leading technologies, agent recruitment and retention solutions, and market share expansion. Franchisees enjoy immediate brand recognition, network support, and business opportunities through referrals and leads from all parts of the world.

Founded by Art Bartlett and Marsh Fisher in Orange County, California, in 1971 and franchising since 1972, the number of locations rose from 7,335 in 2017 to the current total of 11,141 (down from the previously reported total of 12,911), of which none are company-owned and 9,371 are located outside the US.

2. RE/MAX

RE/MAX also has similar long-lived brand recognition and is also known as one of the most successful franchises across all industries. In their business model, each individual agent runs their own business, but multiple agents come together to share the overhead of an office location and administrative support. The company website boasts “…a robust network of over 140,000 agents in more than 9,000 offices worldwide.”

Founded by Dave and Gail Liniger in Denver, Colorado, in 1973 and franchising since 1975, the number of locations grew strongly in recent years from 6,772 in 2014 to 9,120 in 2023 but has since declined to the current total of 8,833 (down from the previously reported total of 9,111), of which none are company-owned and 5,613 are located outside the US.

3. ERA Real Estate

ERA Real Estate was founded on the idea of bringing cutting-edge technologies to the real estate industry. Back in 1971, ERA was an acronym meaning Electronic Realty Associates. At the time, what that meant was ERA was the first real estate company to employ fax machines for transmitting listings across the country. It was also the first to put listings online when the internet came on the scene. An existing real estate brokerage office can become an ERA Powered company, meaning it can keep its current logo while still leveraging everything ERA has to offer.

Founded by Jim Jackson in 1971 and franchising since 1972, the number of locations has risen slightly in recent years from 2,296 in 2018 to the current total of 2,395 (up from the previously reported total of 2,386), of which none are company-owned and 1,931 are located outside the US.

4. Keller Williams

Keller Williams likes to say how it beats their competitor real estate franchises on several fronts, but mostly by their number of agents, which is now more than 190,000 in more than 1,100 offices worldwide. Its formula for success has been created by studying all the most successful agents and teaching every agent the same strategies and tactics. The chain is also proud of staying on the cutting edge of technology, especially customer relationship management (CRM) apps that lead agents to more closed transactions.

Founded by Gary Keller and Joe Williams in 1983 and franchising since 1987, the number of locations has grown in recent years from 710 in 2014 to the current total of 1,125 (down from the previously reported total of 1,151), of which 44 are company-owned and 351 are located outside the US.

5. HomeVestors of America

HomeVestors of America is on the lookout for people who need to sell their house quickly and know they’re probably not going to get a high price for it. These homes tend to be in fairly bad shape, hence the company’s “We Buy Ugly Homes” marketing slogan and web address. Their customers don’t need to go through a long listing process because they just need to get rid of the house through a quick cash offer. What HomeVestors then does is essentially “flip” these houses by fixing them up and selling them for a substantial profit. Given the chain’s recent growth, the business model seems to be working well. HomeVestors has purchased more than 140,000 homes since it first opened.

Founded in 1996 and franchising since that same year, the number of locations has expanded rapidly in recent years from 544 in 2014 to 1,155 in 2023 but has since dropped to the current total of 1,042 (down from the previously reported total of 1,129), of which 20 are company-owned and all are located in the US.

Unlike the companies listed above, 4 Sale Realty is not a franchise. 4 Sale Realty has made the decision that it can be more nimble and adaptive strictly under a License Agreement. This enables us to maintain consistency with our advertising, logos, and procedures without all the other stuff the big guys require.
